SUPPLY OF APPROXIMATELY 300 KILOMETRES (KM) OF ALL-DIELECTRIC LASHED (ADLASH) OPTICAL FIBRE CABLE TO BROADBAND INFRACO
CLOSING DATE: 05 MAY 2021 AT 12h00 (SOUTH AFRICAN TIME).
REQUEST FOR INFORMATION: SUPPLY OF APPROXIMATELY 300 KILOMETRES
(KM) OF ALL-DIELECTRIC LASHED (ADLASH) OPTICAL FIBRE CABLE
MOTIVATION:
The ADLash optical fibre cable, suitable for external use, is attached to the ground wire with a weather-resistant self-adhesive lashing tape. The process is referred to as lashing and is performed with a manual lashing machine. ADLash is a technique specially developed for the attachment of optical fibre cable to the ground wire of a high-voltage power line.
This can be performed with a light compact manual lashing machine which is suitable for most high and medium voltage power lines. It is critical to have the correct amount of spare ADLash cable in stock to ensure that cable break incidents and identified defects during line walkdowns, are repaired quickly and repaired before they cause any network failures. The defects on the ADLash cable have a huge impact on the quality of service rendered to Broadband Infraco clients, as these defects can cause high attenuation that leads to poor service quality, and even transmission systems to fail during normal operation.
Should these identified defects not be repaired in time, the risk is very high that the down time will be long should the optical fibre cable break or be damaged due to extreme tension or any other causes. Such repairs necessitate Eskom to first obtain approval to switch off the power line for repairs to commence. This has a negative impact on customer SLAs and MTTR. This consequently leads to high rebates which must be paid to clients.
SCOPE OF WORK:
Supply approximately 300 kilometres (km) All-dielectric Lashed (ADLash) cable.
Suppliers are requested to declare any other shorter lengths of ADLash cable they can supply.
